Compared to first ionization enthalpy of an atom, the second is : (a) Greater (b) Less (c) Same (d) Negligible

Ionization enthalpy is amount of energy required to remove an electron from the atom. After removing the first electron, the atom already gets the postive charge and thus it is so hard to remove the second electron. Thus second ionization enthalpy is always greater than first ionization enthalpy.
