The average speed with which electrons move when an electric field is applied is called drift velocity.
v_d=\frac{-Ee}{m}\tau

 If there are n electrons per unit volume each having charge e and moving with velocity v

Then

i=nev_dA

So

{J}=\frac{i}{A}=\frac{nev_dA}{A}= nev_d
