Variation is that change which occurs in the progeny formed through sexual reproduction because in this process both the germ cells are equally involved.

The reason because of which variations are important for species survival is it causes the organism to overcome extreme situations. Species of different organisms occupy well-defined positions in the ecosystem, utilizing their reproductive capacity.

Two reasons for the appearance of variations among the progeny formed by sexual reproduction are:
a) Crossing over is the process in which DNA is transferred between the homologous chromosomes during meiosis and this causes variation in the progeny.
b) The progeny grown due to sexual reproduction has characteristics from the mother as well as the father and because of this the characteristics differ and result in variation.

variation the differences in the characters [traits] among the individuals of a species .It is necessary for organic evolution

The variations populations of organisms interact with many types of ecological niches.Variations is important for them to survive  in given conditions .In case of any damage caused to the ecological conditions the population gets adversely affectted .The organisms which are able to survive may reproduce to develop population .Which are adopted or suited to the varied differing conditions .

1]Involvement of two different individuals                                                                                                                 2] creation of new combinations of variants
