  • In 1953, S.L. Miller an American Scientist created conditions like high temperature, volcanic storms, reducing atmosphere containing CH_{4}, NH_{3}, etc. in the laboratory scale.
  • He created electric discharge in a closed flask containing CH_{4}, NH_{3}, H_{2} and water vapour at 800^{\circ}C.

Observations:-

  • He observed the formation of amino acids.
  • In similar experiments, others observed the formation of sugars, nitrogen bases, pigments and fats.
  • This experiment gave the theory of abiogenesis, i.e, the first form of life arose slowly through evolutionary forces from non - living molecules.
