Phosphorus is a major constituent of all biological membranes such as nucleic acids and cellular energy transfer systems. Animals also require a large quantity of phosphorus to form shells, bones and teeth. Naturally, phosphorus is found in rocks in the form of phosphates.

Plants absorb phosphorus through roots from the soil when the rocks are weathered, a minute quantity of phosphates that are dismissed in soil solution. So, the herbivores and other animals obtain phosphorus from plants. Whereas the waste outputs and the dead organisms are decomposed by phosphate-solubil?sing bacteria releasing phosphorus
