Floods are very common in India. It is referred as natural calamity. Every year some parts of the country is affected by floods. It caused a great damage to life and property..

Floods are generally the result of of continuous and heavy rainfall.  Sometimes snow melts on the mountains and this causes a flood in the mountainous places and it can be caused by a crack in any wall of a dam.

I remember once the whole of the northern India became the victim of the floods. Rivers were in a fierce mood. The newspapers published stories of suffering,loss of life and property, damage of crops and houses even animals were struggling for life in the floods. Several villagers on the bank of river were washed away, cattles were drowned. A rescue party came for help. They asked the people to vacate their houses.

Flood victims were given help by private relief and government parties. Food , clothes and other necessary things were given free to the flood victims. 

We should take some measures to prevent flooding like we can create flood plains and overflow areas for river. Rainwater should be separated  from sever system.and manmade channels to divert flood water.
