THE ROLE OF PRESS by Lakshay (10-b)

In a democratic country like India, the press has a very significant role. A frank, free and fearless press is necessary not only in a democracy but in any form of government. The purpose of the press is to work efficiently by its various code of ethics which creates a positive and constructive impression on the minds of the people. The collective presentation of news and information keeps the people in touch with what goes on in the country or the world. The newspaper and media are responsible not only putting forth the achievements or failures of the administration but also for being the bridge between the citizens, government and the rest of the world. Certain media outlets indulge in Yellow journalism where they spread news full of rumours, with no fact checking and eye catching headlines to increase their sales. Their techniques include sensationalism to pique the interest of a common. They usually feed false news rather than giving news on important and legitimate matters, thus poisoning the thinking of people on humanitarian ground. The purpose of the press is to work on a cause which is right and just. The press should uphold their duty to work for the interest of the nation and not exploit their power to influence the masses with it. The press is a symbol of the thinking of the nation and masses, thus should always be unbiased.
