A transitive verb is a verb which needs an object to complete its meaning.

Example- Raj wants a pencil. The object ‘pencil’ is needed by the verb ‘want’ to complete the meaning of the sentence Raj….a pencil

An intransitive verb is a verb which does not require an object to complete its meaning. It has a complete meaning of its own.

Example- The plane is flying. Here the verb ‘flying’ has its own meaning and doesn’t need an object to complete its meaning.
