Explain why clip made of iron floats on water but an iron needle sinks?

Needle is very thin in size, so gthe amount of water displaced by the water is not able to exert that much of buoyant force on the needle which can balance it's weight. But in the clip, the amount of water displaced is that much which can balance the weight of the clip. That is why it does not sink.
