Consider a charge q moving in a region with both electric and magnetic field. Then the force experienced by the charge

f=q[E+V\times B]

Let us consider E =E\widehat{j}, B = B\widehat{k}, V = V\widehat{i}

then

f = q [E-VB]\widehat{j}

Thus the electric and magnetic field are in the opposite direction.

Now adjusting the values of E and B such that

f _{E}=f_{B}

then the charge moves undeflected.

qE=qVB

V=\frac{E}{B}

This condition can be used to select charged particles of a particular speed.
