Find the direction cosins of the striaght line x=2y=5z

Answers (1)

best_answer

x=2y=5z
We are given the line fracx1=fracyfrac12=fraczfrac15
Hence (1,frac12,frac15) are the set of the direction ratios of the line.
Now
1^2+(frac12)^2+(frac15)^2=1+frac14+frac125=frac129100
To get the direction cosines we have to divide the direction ratios by sqrtfrac129100
Hence the direction cosines arefrac1sqrtfrac129100   ,  fracfrac12sqrtfrac129100,  fracfrac15sqrtfrac129100
