Both the statements are lacking prepositions. We unable to identify the position of the pronoun ‘I’ and the noun ‘beggar’. Thus they sound nonsensical.

After adding the prepositions ‘on’ and ‘in’, there exist a relationship between the noun/pronoun and the sentence.

  1. I have no chair to sit on.
  2. The beggar had no bed to lie in.
