Give reasons for the following :

(i) Only one half of water molecule is shown in the formula of Plaster of Paris.

(ii) Sodium hydrogen carbonate is used as an antacid.

(i) Only one half of water molecule is shown in the formula of Plaster of Paris because 2 formula units of CaSO4 /Calcium sulphate share 1 molecule of water of crystallization.

(ii) Sodium hydrogen carbonate is used as an antacid because of its alkaline nature

(iii) On strong heating, blue coloured copper sulphate crystals turn white, which is shown by the following reaction -

CuSO4 .5H2O (Blue) ---------> CuSO4 (white) + 5H2O

 Due to loss of water of crystallization, white color is obtained
