Some organisms can make their own food who are known as autotrophs and some organisms derive nutrition from other organisms who are referred to as heterotrophs. Therefore, without producers, consumers will not able to obtain energy. Also, in terms of shelter, some parasites need a host to live and obtain nutrients from them.
