How is refractive index of medium 2 with respect to medium 1 represented in terms of speed of light in the two media ? If the refractive index of medium 2 with respect to medium 1 is 1.6 and the speed of light in medium 1 is 2\times 10^{8}\; ms^{-1},, find the speed of light in medium 2.

Refractive index of medium 2 with respect to medium 1=\mu _{2}_{1}

 \mu _{21}=\frac{speed \; of\; light \; in\; medium \; 1 }{speed\; of\; light\; in\; medium\; 2}

\mu _{21}=\frac{\mu _{2}}{\mu _{1}}=\frac{V_{1}}{V_{2}}

    1.6=\frac{2\times 10^{8}m/s}{V_{2}}

        V_{2}=\frac{2\times 10^{8}m/s}{1.6}

        V_{2}=1.25\times 10^{8}m/s
