Good morning to the Principal, teachers and my dear friends. I am Sidhi of Class 10-B and I have prepared a speech for today's event on the topic 'My Hobby'. Hobby means a useful work which one does during leisure time for the main purpose of relaxation. Hobby is neccesary for one to pass time with and be productive in it. It is also a change from the monotonous routine of a person. It is part of the work which one takes interest in and derives no monetary benefit but pleasure for himself. Life without a hobby could be dull as it not only lightens the burden of life but also help us grow creatively and mentally as an individual.

Every one has a hobby. Commonly, people's hobbies are collecting coin, stamps, sea shells, flowers, fishing, playing instruments etc. They might not seem productive to someone else but is a coping mechanism for those who enjoys doing these. Likewise, my hobby is reading. Reading has been a newly discovered hobby of mine as the first full length novel I read was 'Jane Eyre' by Charollete Bronte. I have always been curious about classic literature but was always afraid of it if it turned out to be boring or filled with complex meanings. But the book was a simple text so any person can read it. Reading not only helps me take a break from the world but has also increased my knowledge in all aspects. It has improved my speech, dialogue delivering, grammar and knowledge on the topics that I wouldn't have discovered on my own. I read new words and write their meanings in a notebook so I can memorise. Gaining new knowledge has made me feel more confident and at ease.I enjoy reading whatever I can, may it be a novel, poem or comic or short story. To develop a reading habit, you don't have to read the greatest work of any author or poet instead you should find the text or genre you feel comfortable reading, no matter how stupid it might look to others but to you it should remain special.

They say 'an empty mind is a devil's workshop'. A hobby makes you less dependent on others and keeps you occupied in times of boredom and gives you solace. Hope you all find your solace. I was honoured to have you as my audience. Thank you for listening
