If our cells can perform anaerobic respiration then what is the need of oxygen?

The energy produced by the anaerobic respiration is not efficient enough since it generates very few molecules of ATP. Whereas, in the presence of oxygen, aerobic respiration causes complete oxidation of the respiratory substrate to generate a large number of ATP molecules.
