Assertion (A) -In a homologous series of alcohols, the formula for the second member is C_6H_5OH Reason(R) - The difference between the molecular masses of the twe consecutive member of a homologous series is 144.
Option: 1 Both A and R are true and R is the correct explanation of the assertion
Option: 2 Both A and R are true but  R is not the correct explanation of the assertion
Option: 3 A is true but R is false.
Option: 4 A is false but R is true.

In a homologous series of alcohols, the formula for the second member is C2H5OH and the third member is C3H7OH as the difference between two successive members of a homologous series is of CH2 Group, Hence this statement is correct .

Whereas the statement ''The difference between the molecular masses of the two consecutive members of a homologous series is 144'' is false because the disfference is of 14 amu, not 144. 

Hence, A is true but R is false.

Option C is correct
