Justify the following statements :
(a) Tungsten is used exclusively for filaments of electric lamps.
(b) Series arrangement is not used for domestic circuits.
(c) Copper and aluminium wires are usually employed for electricity transmission.
(a) Tungsten is used exclusively for filaments of electric bulbs because tungsten has high resistance and very high melting point so could not burnt at high temperature.
(b) Series arrangment is not used for domestic circuits because-
(i) In series total resistance will increase and hence, the current flowing through the circuit will be less.
(ii) If one electrical appliance is switched off or gets damaged than all other electrical appliances will also stop working.
(iii) All electrical appliances are to be used simultaneously even if we not need them.
(c) Copper and aluminium are good conductor of electricity and they have low resistivities. so, copper and aluminium conduct electric current without having heat losses and also they are available at cheap rates.
