Solve the following pair of linear equations by elimination method x/2 + 2y/3=-1 and x - y/3= 3

Answers (1)

x/2 + 2y/3 = -1

(3x + 4y )/6 = -1

3x + 4y = -6 ....(i)

x - y/3 = 3

(3x- y)/3 = 3

3x - y  = 9 ...(ii)

Equation (i) - Equation (ii)

3x + 4y - 3x + y = - 6 - 9

5y = -15

y = -15/5 = -3

Put vaule of y in equation (ii)

3x - (-3) = 9

3x = 9 -3 = 6

x = 6/3 = 2
