Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan is the name of the cleanliness initiative started in 2014 by Government of India. It is the name given in Hindi while the name Clean India Mission is given to this initiative as it is popularly known in English. The idea of this mission is to raise awareness regarding cleanliness, health and hygiene.

This initiative is newly launched by honourable Prime Minister Mr Narendra Modi. However, it has its roots during Gandhian era when it's objective was to educate people on forms of cleanliness. One is physical cleanliness, cleanliness of first our body by following practises such as hand-washing, bathing daily, brushing teeth two times, not drinking alcohol and consuming things that are banned.

Another aspect of this cleanliness is cleanliness of our home and surrounding. Cleaning toilets on our own, preventing diseases and infections. Keeping our surrounding clean by throwing garbage in separate dustbin. Green for biodegradable wastes and Blue for non biobiodegradable wastes. Not spitting and urinating publicly.

Second type of cleanliness is of mind, habits and behaviours by praying daily, not lying, speaking bad words to people, not abusing anyone physically, emotionally, psychologically. It also involves behaving respectfully towards people who are different than us in caste, appeaenace, dress, occupation,   gender and status.
