There are six questions in a question paper. In how many ways can a student solve one or more questions?

The student can dispose each question in two ways-either solve it or leave it.
Thus the number of ways of disposing of all the questions are=2^6
But this includes the case in which the student has left all the questions.
herefore The number of ways of solving the paper=2^6-1=64-1=63.
