Ruskin Bond is famous Indian writer. He was born in 19 May, 1934 in Kasauli, Punjab States Agency, British India. He has written more than hundred short stories,six novels over thirty books for children. He is considered to be an icon among Indian writers and  children's authors.

He was one of those writers who refuses to be brought down by predictability. His works vary in terms of language, style and most importantly story.

He was an author who has an incredibility successful writing career. His tales are elegies in prose which register his protest against the hazards to the environment caused by urbanization and Industrialization.

He has written many quotes like,  " To be able to laugh and to be merciful are the only things that make man better than the beast."

Awards -

He was honoured by Sahitya  Academy Award for his book, " Our Trees Still Grow at Dehra in 1922 , Padam Shree in 1999 for his lifetime , John Llewellyn Rhys prize in 1957 and  Padam Bhushan in 2014.

Some of his contributions include The hidden Pool, Grandfather private zoo, The room on the roof, Ghost stories from the Raj, A season of Ghosts, The lamp is lit. The night train at dedi, A flight of pigeons, The blue umbrella.
