Amorphophallus is a large species of some tropical or subtropical tuberous herbaceous plant. It belongs to the family Araceae and the highest classification of Arum.  Amorphophallus have a  mottled flowering spathe in advance of the large compound leaf and often attaining a height of several feet.  Such plants are native to Africa, Australia and various oceanic islands. In few species, if irritating chemicals are removed they become edible and are called as 'famine foods'
