Insects have a tracheal respiratory system. In this type of respiratory system, oxygen and carbon - dioxide travel through an air-filled tube called tracheae. These tracheae are penetrated into the cuticle of insects via spiracles and end near or within the tissues in tiny tubes called tracheoles.
