What is the doppler effect?

Answers (1)

The Doppler effect (or Doppler shift) is the phenomenon of change in frequency of a wave (or other periodic event) for an observer moving relative to source pf wave. It is commonly heard when a vehicle sounding a siren or horn approaches, passes, and recedes from an observer.

\text { General expression for apparent frequency } n^{\prime}=\frac{\left[\left(v+v_{m}\right)-v_{L}\right] n}{\left[\left(v+v_{m}\right)-v_{s}\right]}

If the velocity of the medium is zero then the formula become -    n^{\prime}=\left(\frac{v-v_{L}}{v-v_{s}}\right) n
