Connie Machperson was the wife of Jim Machperson who was a captain in British Army. He wrote a letter to his wife telling about the incident that took place on Battlefield in the year Nineteen Hundred Fourteen. This letter was in a drawer in a desk. It was eventually found on cleaning the desk. The narrator, Michael Morpurgo returned the letter to Mrs Connie Machperson. On founding and receiving the letter Connie Machperson was very happy. Her reaction on receiving the letter was that her eyes were filled with excitement. She took narrator hand in her hands and said that her husband has kept her promise. According to her, the letter was the best Christmas present in the world.
