The major problem in the story of Tom Sawyer was that Tom and Huck perceive their biggest struggle to be between themselves and Injun Joe, whose gold they want and whom they believe is out to kill them. Conflict also exists between Tom and his imaginative world and thus the expectations and rules of adult society.
The resolution is the solution to the conflict. At the top of the book, Tom and Becky are trapped within the cave. When they are rescued from the cave and find the treasure, and return home, that's the resolution of the story because the most important conflict is resolved.
