Gastric glass in stomach release hydrochloric acid (HCl), enzyme pepsin and mucus. Mucus protects the inner lining of stomach from the action of HCl and enzyme pepsin .

If it is not secreted by gastric glands, it will digest or corrode the inner lining of the stomach which may cause ulcer and acidity.
