Signals in a synapse flow from axial end of one neuron to dendrite end of another neuron but not in the reverse direction because when an electrical signal reaches the axonal end, it releases a chemical substance. This chemical then moves towards the dendrite end of the next neuron where it generates an electrical signal.

Since these chemicals are absent at the dendritic end, the electrical signal cannot be converted into a chemical signal.
