Baking soda- Sodium Bicarbonate (NaHCO3) is basic in nature. It dissociates into sodium ions (Na+) and bicarbonate ions (HCO3-) when dissolved in a solution. It is used as an antacid because it reduces the acidity in the stomach. The stomach produces acid (HCl) to help in digestion. Too much acid can cause heartburn and discomfort in the body. The bicarbonate ion (HCO3-) reacts with hydrogen ions (H+) of HCl acid in the stomach to neutralize them, making the solution pH less acidic or more alkaline (basic).
