Why is left ventricle of heart thicker than the right ventricle?

Left ventricle of heart thicker than the right ventricle  due to the higher forces needed to pump blood through the systemic circuit (around the body)  and against higher pressure, compared with the right ventricle or the  pulmonary circuit.
