In the poem" Lord Ullin's Daughter",the Boatman was initially hesistant to row the lovers across the lake as the lake was going through current changes that can become problematic. The water was turning scary, ghostly and heavy with current and storm. Knowing the danger, he still agreed to ferry the boat because the girl pleaded him to cross the river as he was scared of her father. The boatmen was a good man who was concerned about the young girl so he decided to cross the river evening storm.
