250 g of water and equal volume of alcohol of mass 20 gm are replaced succesively in the same caloriemeter and cool from 60 C to 55 C in 130 second and 67 second respectively . If the water equivalemnt of the caloriemeter is 10 gm then the specific heat of alcohol is
1.30
0.67
0.62
0.98
As we have learned
Water Equivalent -
The mass of water which would obserb or evolve the same amount of heat as is done by the body in rising or falling though the same range temperature.
-
Heat lost by water and caloriemeter = (250+10 )*5 = 1300 cal
Rate of heat loss = 1300/130 = 10 cal /s
Heat lost by alcohol and caloriemeter = (200s + 10 ) * 5 = 1000 s + 50
Rate of heat lost = (1000 s + 50) / 67
Rate of heat loss is equal in both cases then
s = 0.62
