(3x +5y, 2x -3y) is an ordered pair equal to (x+3y - 4, x-y-2), then find x and y

best_answer

Ordered pair of elements a, b such that ( a, b) = (u, v ) if and only if a = u, b = v.

\therefore (3x +5y, 2x -3y)= (x+3y - 4, x-y-2)

\therefore 3x + 5y = x+3y-4

\\ \Rightarrow 2x + 2y = -4 \\ \Rightarrow x + y = -2              -(i)

And, 2x -3y= x-y-2

\\ \Rightarrow x -2y= -2                -(ii)

Now, (i) - (ii)

(x + y) - (x -2y)=-2-( -2)

\\ \Rightarrow 3y=0 \\ \Rightarrow y=0

Putting y=0 in (i)

x = -2

\therefore (x,y)= (-2,0)??
