Answers (1)

 General  equation for combustion of hydrocarbon :

C_{x}H_{y} + \left ( x + \frac{y}{4} \right ) O_{2} \rightarrow xCO_{2} + \frac{y}{2}H_{2}O

Number if moles of CO2 produced = 3.08 / 4 = 0.07

Number of moles of H2O produced = 0.72 / 18 = 0.04

So,

\frac{x}{{y} } = \frac{0.07}{0.04} = \frac{7}{4}

The formula of hydrocarbon is C7H8.
