A light wave travelling linearly in a medium of dielectric constant 4, incidents on the horizontal interface separating medium with air. The angle of incidence for which the total intensity of incident wave will be reflected back into the same medium will be :
(Given : relative permeability of medium \mu_{\mathrm{r}}=1 )

Option: 1

10^{\circ}

Option: 2

20^{\circ}

Option: 3

30^{\circ}

Option: 4

best_answer

\mathrm{k= \varepsilon _{r}= 4}
\mathrm{\mu _{med}= \frac{C}{V}= \sqrt{\mu _{r}\varepsilon _{r}}= 2}

\mathrm{\left ( \because \; V= \frac{C}{\sqrt{\mu _{r}\varepsilon _{r}}} \right )}

When the angle of incidence is equal to the critical angle the total intensity of the incident wave will be reflected back into the same medium

\mathrm{\sin i_{C}= \frac{1}{\mu _{med}}= \frac{1}{2}}
        \mathrm{i_{C}= 30^{\circ}}

The correct option is (3)
