As we learnt,

Empirical formula -

An Empirical formula represents the simplest whole number ratio of various atoms present in a compound.

- wherein

for glucose, empirical formula is CH2O

General  equation for combustion of hydrocarbon :

C_{x}H_{y} + \left ( x + \frac{y}{4} \right ) O_{2} \rightarrow xCO_{2} + \frac{y}{2}H_{2}O

Number if moles of CO2 produced = 3.08 / 44

                                                       = 0.07

Number of moles of H2O produced = 0.72 / 18

                                                        = 0.04

So, \frac{x}{\left ( \frac{y}{2} \right )} = \frac{0.07}{0.04} = \frac{7}{4}

The formula of hydrocarbon is C7H8.

Option 1)

C7H8

Option 2)

C2H4

Option 3)

C3H4

Option 4)

C6H5
