Arrange the following in increasing order of their covalent character.

\mathrm{\text { A. } \mathrm{CaF}_{2}}

\mathrm{\text { B. } \mathrm{CaCl}_{2}}

\mathrm{\text { C. } \mathrm{CaBr}_{2}}

\mathrm{\text { D. } \mathrm{CaI}_{2}}

 Choose the correct answer from the options given below.

Option: 1

\mathrm{B}<\mathrm{A}<\mathrm{C}<\mathrm{D}

Option: 2

\mathrm{A}<\mathrm{B}<\mathrm{C}<\mathrm{D}

Option: 3

\mathrm{A}<\mathrm{B}<\mathrm{D}<\mathrm{C}

Option: 4

\mathrm{A}<\mathrm{C}<\mathrm{B}<\mathrm{D}

According to Fajans rule,

The greater or the larger the size of anion the greater the covalent character of an ionic bond.

Size of anion : \mathrm{I}^{\ominus}>\mathrm{Br}^{\ominus}>\mathrm{Cl}^{\Theta}>\mathrm{F}^{\Theta}

So, covalent character is increasing order -

So,

\\\mathrm{CaF_{2}<CaC_{2}<CaBr_{2}<CaI_{2}}\\\mathrm{A<B<C<D}

Hence, Option (2) is correct.
