Given readings-

  • 3.26 cm
  • 3.28 cm
  • 3.31 cm

$$
Mean = \frac {3.26 + 3.28 + 3.31}{3}= \frac {9.85} {3}= 3.283cm
$$ $$
Absolute error=|Mean−Reading|= |3.283−3.26|=0.023cm
$$

Hence, the absolute error for the first reading (3.26 cm) is 0.023 cm.
