Given below are two statements.

Statement I: In \mathrm{CuSO}_{4}\cdot 5 \mathrm{H}_{2} \mathrm{O}, \textrm{Cu-O} bonds are present.

Statement II: In \mathrm{CuSO}_{4} \cdot 5 \mathrm{H}_{2} \mathrm{O}, ligands coordinating with Cu(II) ion are O-and S-based ligands.

In the light of the above statements, choose the correct answer from the options given below

Option: 1

Both Statement I and Statement II are correct.

Option: 2

Both Statement I and Statement II are incorrect.

Option: 3

Statement I is correct but Statement II is incorrect.

Option: 4

Statement I is incorrect but Statement II is correct.

Answers (1)

best_answer

Statement I is correct

As evident from the structure, \mathrm{CuSO_4\cdot5H_2O} contains \mathrm{Cu-O} bonds.

Statement II is incorrect

In \mathrm{\mathrm{CuSO}_{4} \cdot \mathrm{5H}_{2} \mathrm{O}}, ligand coordinating with \mathrm{Cu(II)} ion is \mathrm{'O'} based ligand and not \mathrm{'S'} based ligand.

Statement I is correct but Statement II is incorrect.

Hence the correct answer is an option (3).
