Meter bridge -

 

\frac{P}{Q}=\frac{R}{S}\Rightarrow S= \frac{(100-l)}{l}R

- wherein

AB=l

BC=(100-l)

 

 

For the balanced bridge, the ratio of two resistances is equal to the ratio of the lengths of the two part AJ and JB of the wire

i.e.\frac{X}{6}=\frac{40cm}{60cm}\: \: or\: \: X=4\Omega
