As we learnt in

Rules for Oxidation Number -

The algebraic sum of the oxidation number of all the atoms in a compound must be zero. In polyatomic ion the sum is equal to charge on the ion.

 Let's take the species individually,

C_{3}O_{2}, Let O.S of the Carbon be x

then, 3x-2(2)=0

x=4/3

and Mg_{2}C_{3}, let O.S of Carlean be y

2(2) + 3y=0

y=-4/3

\therefore Solution is 2

Option 1)

\frac{-4}{3},\frac{4}{3}

Incorrect

Option 2)

\frac{4}{3},\frac{-4}{3}

Correct

Option 3)

\frac{-2}{3},\frac{2}{3}

Incorrect

Option 4)

\frac{-2}{3},\frac{4}{3}

Incorrect
