Absorption of x ray -

I=I_{0}\cdot e^{-2\mu x}

- wherein

x = thickness of material

\mu = absorption coefficient

 I=I_{0}.e^{-\mu x}

\frac{I}{8}=I_{0}.e^{-\mu(36mm)}

e^{-36\mu}=\frac{1}{8}                                   ..................(1)

\frac{I_{0}}{2}=I_{0}e^{-\mu x}

e^{-\mu x}=\frac{1}{2}= \left(\frac{1}{8} \right )^{1/3}

From equation (1)

 e^{-\mu x}=e^{-12\mu}

Hence,  x = 12 mm
