Option (D) 8

We have to find the median of the given frequency distribution:

Variables

4

5 10 13 8 16

Frequency

4 6 4 5 11 10

The cumulative frequency table will be,

Variables Frequency Culumutive Frequency
4 4 4
5 6 10
10 4 14
13 5 19
8 11 30
16 10 40

The total cumulative frequency (N) = 40.

We have,

\mathrm{\frac{N}{2}=\frac{40}{2}=20}

We take the median as the observation with cumulative frequency just greater than \mathrm{\frac{N}{2}.}

Hence, 30 is the cumulative frequency just greater than 20.

Thus, the median is 8.
