Ground wave propagation -

Radio waves travel along the surface of the earth. It can be sustained at a low frequency only. ( ~500 KHZ to 1500KHZ )

These waves induce a current in the ground as they propagate due to which some energy is lost.     

Ground waves glide over the surface of the earth thus they are also called surface wave 

During the propagation, they induce a current in the ground due to the absorption of energy the ground waves are attenuated 

Ground wave propagation works best in the frequency range 500 kHz - 2 MHz, over which losses due to induction increase significantly
