UPSEE and CUSAT CAT are among the popular entrance exams of India for admission to professional programmes offered in affiliated institutes of respective states. UPSEE is for candidates who belong to Uttar Pradesh and CUSAT CAT is for candidates who are from Kerala. However, candidates from across India can appear for these two exams but admission will be granted as per prescribed admission policy and reservation policy.

Candidates from any states of India can appear for both exams but weightage will be given to candidates if they belong from the respective states. Before deciding on which exam to appear read the seats and admission criteria of both exams below.

Uttar Pradesh State Entrance Examination commonly known as UPSEE is state level entrance exam conducted for admission to B.Tech /B.Arch./B.Pharm./BHMCT/BFAD/BFA/ MBA/MCA and 2 Year of B. Tech./B.Pharm./MCA (Lateral Entry) programmes offered in all the Technical Institutions / Colleges affiliated to the AKTU, Lucknow. UPSEE is primarily for candidates who belong to Uttar Pradesh but candidates from other states can also appear for this exam but admission will be granted as per the defined seats and reservation criteria. As per UPSEE 2018 admission criteria following rules will be applied for candidates who are from outside Uttar Pradesh.

  • State Govt. has permitted 15% of total sanctioned seats available in Private Institutions to be filled by the Management quota /NRI candidates
  • State Govt. has permitted 10% of the total sanctioned seats available in Technology / Architecture courses in private institutions affiliated to AKTU to be filled through merit of Non U.P. Domicile candidates without reservation subject to eligibility conditions. Thus, 10% of the total sanctioned seats in Technology / Architecture courses in Private Institutions, affiliated to AKTU, shall be opened to the candidates whose parent belongs to the State other than Uttar Pradesh and has passed qualifying examination from an Institution located outside U.P. These seats shall be filled on the basis of UPSEE Merit list.

Cochin University of Science and Technology is commonly known as CUSAT and conducted for admission B.Tech/B.E./B.Arch. programmes along with other undergraduate and postgraduate courses. CUSAT CAT is mainly for candidates who belong to Kerala state but candidates from other can also appear for the exam but admission will be provided as per below mention criteria.

  • State Merit Seats (SM): Out of the total approved seats of Self-financing B Tech Programmes 50% are earmarked as State Merit Seats
  • All India Merit Seats (AIM): Out of the total approved seats of Self-financing B Tech Programmes 40% seats are earmarked as All India Merit Seats with higher rate of fees. Both Keralite and Non-Keralite candidates can opt for AIM seats.
  • All India Quota (AIQ): For the regular B Tech Programmes viz.B Tech in (Naval Architecture and Ship Building), B Tech (Instrumentation Technology) and B Tech (Polymer Science Engineering) and for all programmes other than B Tech Programmes 10% of the total approved seats are earmarked as All India quota. Both Keralites and Non-Keralites are eligible to be considered against AIQ. The remaining seats are reserved for candidates who are Keralites.
