Momentum conservation along x-axis

mv = mv_1 \cos \theta

v = v_1 \cos \theta ....(1)

along y- axis

0 = mv / \sqrt 2 - mv _1 \sin \theta

\frac{v}{\sqrt 2} = v_1 \sin \theta ....(2)

v^2 + \frac{v^2}{2} = v _{1}^{2} (\sin ^2 \theta + \cos ^2 \theta )

v _{1}^{2} = \frac{3v^2}{2}\Rightarrow v_1 =\sqrt \frac{3}{2} v
