Let h be the height of the block and A its area of cross-section. Weight of ice block \mathrm{=A h g \times 0.9}. If x is the height of the block immersed in water, then the weight of water displaced \mathrm{=A x g. } Equating the two we get \mathrm{x=0.9 h}. Height above the surface of water \mathrm{=h-0.9 h=0.1 h=0.1 \times 5 \mathrm{~m}=0.5 \mathrm{~m}}.

Hence the correct choice is (c).
