According to new Cartesian sign conventions,
\mathrm{u}=-40 \mathrm{~cm}, \mathrm{R}=+20 \mathrm{~cm}

\mathrm{f}=\frac{\mathrm{R}}{2}=+10 \mathrm{~cm}

According to mirror formula
\frac{1}{\mathrm{u}}+\frac{1}{\mathrm{v}}=\frac{1}{\mathrm{f}} \therefore \frac{1}{-40}+\frac{1}{\mathrm{v}}=\frac{1}{10}

\frac{1}{\mathrm{v}}=\frac{1}{10}+\frac{1}{40}=\frac{1}{8} \quad \text { or } \mathrm{v}=8 \mathrm{~cm}
